Whatsapp Chat Lock
WhatsApp has unveiled its latest feature, “Chat Lock,” aiming to bolster user privacy by adding an extra layer of security to personal conversations. This new functionality allows users to safeguard their most sensitive chats by locking them behind a separate folder, accessible only via the device password or biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint.
Once a chat is locked, its contents are concealed from notifications automatically. Users can initiate the locking process by selecting the “lock” option after tapping on a one-to-one or group chat. To access these protected chats, one must gradually pull down on the inbox and input the phone password or biometric details.
According to a blog post by the Meta-owned company, this feature intends to benefit users who occasionally share their phones with family members or during instances when someone else briefly holds the device while an important chat arrives.
WhatsApp plans to expand the Chat Lock options by including capabilities for companion devices and enabling the creation of unique passwords specifically for chats, distinct from the device password.
Despite WhatsApp’s robust end-to-end encryption, accessing messages becomes vulnerable once someone gains unlocked access to the device. The introduction of Chat Lock serves as an added security measure in such scenarios.
This addition follows recent updates from WhatsApp focused on enhancing user interaction. These updates include the ability to create single-vote polls, limiting individuals to vote only once. Additionally, users can now forward media content with accompanying captions, enriching the sharing experience on the platform.
