Wizards of the Coast responded to allegations about their recent promotional image’s creation using AI generative tools. The company showcased new cards, triggering a flurry of claims on social media suggesting AI involvement. This accusation holds significance as Wizards of the Coast had previously stated their requirement for contributors to refrain from using AI generative tools in crafting Magic TCG products.

Wizards of the Coast defended against claims that their recent promotional image was generated using AI tools. Following fans’ observations of inconsistencies in the image of new cards, WotC refuted the allegations. Despite acknowledging fans’ confusion about the stylistic differences compared to regular card art, the company reiterated that the art was crafted by human artists, not AI.

Players and artists express skepticism regarding the image, highlighting anomalies like the pressure gauge, apparatus pipes, and connectors behind the cards. One individual asked, “Have you observed the pressure meter, the window, or the adjacent wall? AI seems to have played a role here.” Some are urging WotC to acknowledge artists’ contributions to validate the authenticity of the artwork.
